The Dawn Service – A Tradition of Remembrance

Every year on 25 April, Australians gather before sunrise to commemorate ANZAC Day, honouring those who have served and sacrificed in military service.

The Dawn Service is one of the most significant traditions associated with ANZAC Day, bringing communities together in quiet reflection and remembrance.

The ceremony is traditionally held in the early morning darkness, symbolising the time of the original landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915.

As the first light of day appears, attendees reflect on the courage, mateship, resilience and sacrifices of generations of Australian service personnel.

From major commemorations at national memorials to small gatherings in regional communities, the Dawn Service remains an enduring expression of Australia's commitment to remembrance.

Honouring Australia's Military Service

The 2026 Dawn Service $2 Coin recognises the significance of this longstanding commemorative tradition.

ANZAC Day honours not only those who served during the First World War but also Australian military personnel who have served in subsequent wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

The Dawn Service provides an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives, acknowledge the sacrifices made by service personnel and their families, and reflect on the lasting impact of military service.

This commemorative coin captures the importance of remembrance through an official Australian numismatic release.

Coloured Uncirculated Finish

Produced with a Coloured Uncirculated finish, the 2026 Dawn Service coin combines the familiar Australian $2 denomination with commemorative artwork.

The coloured elements enhance the presentation of the design, distinguishing this collector release from standard circulating Australian $2 coins.

Its Uncirculated finish makes it particularly appealing to collectors seeking commemorative coins that recognise important moments and traditions in Australian history.

The coin is also an appropriate keepsake for those with a personal connection to military service, remembrance ceremonies or Australia's defence history.

Collectible Canberra 'C' Mintmark

This special release features the 'C' Mintmark, identifying it as a Canberra mintmarked coin from the Royal Australian Mint.

The 'C' Mintmark is a popular feature among collectors of Australian decimal coins, particularly those assembling complete sets of commemorative $2 releases.

Combining the Canberra mintmark with a significant national remembrance theme, the 2026 Dawn Service $2 Coin offers collectors another meaningful addition to their Royal Australian Mint collections.

Royal Australian Mint – Preserving Australia's History

The Royal Australian Mint has a longstanding tradition of producing commemorative coins celebrating Australia's history, people, achievements and significant national occasions.

The 2026 Dawn Service $2 'C' Mintmark Coloured Uncirculated Coin continues this tradition by recognising the importance of remembrance and the enduring legacy of Australian military service.

It is a fitting tribute to the ANZAC spirit and the generations who have contributed to Australia's military history.
