A Functional Sundial in Pure Silver
The reverse, designed by Canadian artist Anna Bucciarelli, transforms the coin into an actual working sundial.
At the centre is a raised gold-plated brass gnomon, surrounded by elaborately engraved Roman numerals and decorative elements. When the coin is placed on a flat surface in direct sunlight and correctly oriented toward true north, the gnomon casts a shadow that can indicate the approximate local solar time.
A beautifully detailed sunflower appears at the base of the design, symbolising the sun and its life-giving energy.
Limited to Only 5,500 Worldwide
With a worldwide mintage limited to just 5,500 pieces, The Gilded Sundial combines traditional timekeeping, precious-metal craftsmanship and modern numismatic innovation.
Presented in its official Royal Canadian Mint box with serialized Certificate of Authenticity, the 2025 Canada $20 Gilded Sundial is an impressive addition for collectors of Royal Canadian Mint releases, innovative silver coins and limited-edition numismatics.
