Beware the beautiful stranger on the road after dark.

Discover one of Central America’s most chilling legends with the 2026 Monster Collection – La Cegua 1 oz Silver Colorized Bar from Scottsdale Mint.

La Cegua is a supernatural figure found in Central American folklore, particularly in stories from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Often described as a mysterious and beautiful woman encountered by travellers at night, her appearance is said to transform into something terrifying, commonly portrayed with a grotesque, skull-like or horse-like face.

Scottsdale Mint brings this haunting legend to life as part of its 2026 Monster Collection, combining supernatural folklore with dramatic artwork and vivid colourization.

Crafted from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, the La Cegua bar offers a striking alternative to conventional bullion. The detailed colorized design captures the contrast at the heart of the legend, beauty concealing something far more sinister.

The release forms part of Scottsdale Mint's growing Monster Collection, joining other dark characters and legendary creatures including The Dullahan, The Wendigo, Boogie Man and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.

With its combination of fine silver, horror-inspired artwork and fascinating folklore, the 2026 La Cegua 1 oz Silver Colorized Bar has strong appeal for Scottsdale Mint collectors and fans of mythology, supernatural stories and unusual precious-metal releases.

The Legend of La Cegua

According to various Central American traditions, La Cegua appears to unsuspecting travellers, often men travelling alone late at night, initially presenting herself as an attractive woman.

But the encounter quickly changes.

In many versions of the legend, her beautiful appearance transforms to reveal a terrifying face, sometimes described as resembling a horse's skull or decomposed horse-like head. The apparition is traditionally portrayed as a warning or punishment for reckless or unfaithful behaviour.

The details of the story vary considerably between countries and generations, but the frightening transformation of La Cegua has made her one of the region's most enduring supernatural figures.

The 2026 Scottsdale Mint Monster Collection – La Cegua 1 oz Silver Colorized Bar captures this legendary transformation in 1 oz of .999 fine silver, adding another haunting character to the Monster Collection.
