The Rainbow Serpent – An Australian Literary Classic

Inspired by Aboriginal storytelling traditions, the book tells the story of the Rainbow Serpent, a powerful ancestral being whose movements shape the landscape.

Through its colourful illustrations and engaging narrative, the story introduces readers to themes of creation, nature and the relationship between living things and the land.

The Rainbow Serpent holds significance in the traditions of numerous Aboriginal peoples, although stories and cultural meanings vary between communities.

Dick Roughsey's celebrated picture book has introduced generations of Australian children to this important storytelling tradition.
