Celebrating 30 Years of the Torres Strait Islander Flag

Designed by Bernard Namok in 1992 and officially recognised as a Flag of Australia in 1995, the Torres Strait Islander Flag is a powerful symbol of identity, cultural heritage and unity.

The flag's distinctive design carries deep cultural significance:

• Green: Represents the land.

• Blue: Symbolises the waters of the Torres Strait.

• Black: Represents the Torres Strait Islander peoples.

• White Dhari: Represents the traditional ceremonial headdress and cultural identity.

• White Five-Pointed Star: Represents the five major island groups and the importance of navigation.

Together, these elements celebrate the strong connection Torres Strait Islander peoples maintain with their land, sea, communities and traditions.

The 2025 30th Anniversary commemorative $2 coin recognises the flag's enduring significance and its place within Australia's national identity.

A Meaningful Australian Commemorative Coin

Australian commemorative $2 coins have become increasingly popular among collectors, particularly those celebrating important cultural events, national milestones and historical anniversaries.

This special release continues that tradition, recognising the 30th anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander Flag's official recognition in 1995.

The coloured design highlights the significance of the flag, while the Uncirculated finish makes it an attractive addition to any modern Australian coin collection.

Beyond its collectible appeal, this coin offers an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the rich history and continuing cultural contributions of Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Collectible 'C' Mintmark

A distinguishing feature of this release is the 'C' Mintmark, identifying it as a Canberra mintmarked collectible coin.

Coins bearing the 'C' Mintmark are popular among Australian numismatic enthusiasts, particularly collectors who enjoy assembling complete sets of Royal Australian Mint commemorative releases.

The combination of the anniversary theme, coloured design and Canberra mintmark makes this an appealing addition to a growing collection of Australian $2 coins.
